Jury Awards Kolcraft $3.2 Million Win in Playpen Patent Suit

Article Image: Jury Awards Kolcraft $3.2M Win in Playpen Patent Case — After nearly a decade of litigation, an Illinois federal jury found Friday that a baby playpen made by Chicco USA Inc. infringed five claims of one of rival Kolcraft Enterprises Inc.’s patents and awarded it $3.2 million in damages, according to Kolcraft’s attorney.

Three models of Chicco’s Lullaby Playard infringe claims of Kolcraft’s U.S. Patent No. 7,376,993, the jury found after less than two hours of deliberation, according to Kolcraft’s lead counsel, Raymond P. Niro Jr of Niro McAndrews LLC. The patent covers the design of a child play yard and play gym combination, the firm said.
